Hi, my name is Ted Sadtler and my goal is for you to have the best nights sleep for the lowest price. To achieve this I've enlisted the help of a big mattress factory and studied the designs of other leading brands, we’ve been able to make nearly identical products at a huge savings.

Here at Mattress Ranch we sell thousands of quality mattresses that are highly discounted. As Serta, Simmons, and Sealy are brand names, Mattress Ranch is a brand name. We have the factory make high quality mattress sets for us. We stock thousands of mattresses in all sizes. We've simply taken out the middleman and sell for less---lots less. We don’t deliver, don’t have predatory sales people and we don’t have phony sales: you get the same low price every day.

Here is a little history. As a child my happiest days were spent working on my father's ice cream truck in New Jersey. Growing up in New Jersey I knew I was destined to travel west. To get away from the crowds, in the sixties I hitchhiked from New Jersey to Alaska. I worked on off shore oil rigs. I worked for Ken Haines, owner of the Bun Drive Inn. I also worked at Eureka Lodge and a lodge in Girdwood. I worked for Mike O'Neal of O'Neal Investigations, where I learned a lot. I realized self-employment was for me.

In 1968 I went back to New Jersey and got married. My wife and I opened our first store on our first anniversary in Burlington, New Jersey. But, the allure of Alaska was strong and I gave my business away in 1971 and almost froze to death on the Alaska Highway. We arrived in anchorage with $6,000.00 and a dream. First I worked at First National Bank and learned from Dan Cutty that people who are honorable can achieve what they want. Then we found an old church behind a road closed sign in Chugiak. It became our first Alaska store. We worked seven days a week doing everything we could ourselves from accounting, sales, delivery and janitorial and became very successful.

At this time I met Al Bramstedt Jr. of KTUU TV who had an idea for us to advertise on TV and let people know about how we sell furniture at low prices. We sold millions of dollars from an old church and a Quonset hut in Chugiak. I learned people know a good deal when they see it. I also learned how to get those good deals.

Next I met Jerry Grilly of the Anchorage Daily News, who said if we buy lots of ads people would buy lots of furniture---and they did. I then opened furniture stores in Anchorage, Sterling, Fairbanks and Wasilla. For years I was the furniture King and I guess it went to my head. I spent too much, I tried to be a real estate mogul. Rather than sticking our creditors, I gave up all my assets. I left Alaska with little more than I’d arrived with. All my creditors were repaid and the business went to an employee.

After I left Alaska I opened a high-end furniture store and a mid-range one in Washington. But after 10 years of trial I realized that I couldn't bring great values to the furniture business, but I could offer tremendous value in mattresses. The idea for the Mattress Ranch came to me in those years. We opened a little store on Callow Ave in Bremerton, then a bigger one down the street, and then an even bigger one further down the street. We sold thousands more each year. We opened a lot of locations that didn’t work out, over a dozen, but now I know what works and what doesn’t.

In 2004 I came back to Alaska and opened a small store in midtown Anchorage, we did more business than I ever imagined. Within a year we expanded that store and now have the whole building as well as locations in Fairbanks, Soldotna and Wasilla. We still provide Washington’s Kitsap County with a good night’s sleep with our stores in Port Orchard and Silverdale.

One day while filming commercials I met two little girls, Nadine and her sister Tre. They came down just to say hi and see the store. We thought it would be fun to have them in the commercial with me and have been friends ever since. While we were talking I found out they had a genetic disease called Cystic Fibrosis that affects the lungs. Soon after that I decided to do everything I can to raise awareness about this fatal disease. I also started a charity called Alaska Halo to help families with sick children and have begun working with both the Make a Wish Foundation and the United Way.

I’m speaking at schools, Hospitals, fairs and anywhere else that will listen in an effort to bring attention to Cystic Fibrosis and I’m enjoying life more than ever.

Thanks for reading this, I hope all is well with you and yours.
